Some of you may have experienced problems getting into or using EdReady yesterday. It turned out that Amazon Web Services (AWS), which provides the cloud-computing infrastructure for EdReady, experienced a major problem. This issue affected thousands of companies and likely millions of people given the centrality of AWS to much of our modern Internet infrastructure. Amazon remains very reliable and the best choice for our software infrastructure, but when these things happen, there is really nothing we can do. The outage lasted for approximately three hours, and things appear to have returned to normal. We are always looking for ways ameliorate service outages – whether they are our responsibility or not – but ask for your patience and understanding when things break as they will do, hopefully rarely.
